One of the most exciting furniture to shop for whether for your office or for your home is the table. We love to look for that special one that fits our dining area, living room, or office nook so perfectly in terms of style. Of course, we also look for one made of high-quality materials that can last for a long time. But if you’re game enough to do some dirty work and create your own table, then you can be sure that what you’ll come up with one that fits your taste. You can also get to choose the materials to use, rather than relying on the false warranties of some furniture sellers. Here are some simple tips that will help you with this project.Gather the Materials If you want an A+ kind of table and you’re planning to splurge on the material, mahogany, oak, and maple wood are your top choices. These are the strongest types of wood that will really stand the test of time. However, they are not very easy to modify or work on because of their solid and hard surfaces. Turning them into a table requires extensive experience from handyman Singapore contractors. The best type you can work on for this project, especially if you plan to do this all by yourself, is plywood. This manufactured type of wood is strong enough to resist warping. You can also opt for veneer wood that comes in many sizes, making it more flexible in terms of style. You can even use old wood planks instead of buying new ones. Just make sure these old planks are not damaged or infested with pests. You’ll also need several tools such as a C-clamp, an angle square ruler, saw, screws and screwdriver, wood glue, sandpaper or finishing sanders, varnish, another type of coating, or paint, as well as different brushes. You’ll need at least one brush for finishing and another for the wood glue. Basic Steps If you opt for used wood planks, make sure that you sand them first before constructing your table. After sanding them or if you will use a brand new plywood, decide how many layers you are going to use for the table top. It is advisable to use four layers of plywood. Glue these wooden planks together and clamp them. Wait overnight until the planks are tightly attached to each other. After that, frame the table top on its corners by gluing long pieces of wood to the four sides of your table top, one in front, one at the back and two on the sides. Now, it’s time to create the leg supporters. On the other side of your table top, leave pencil marks two inches from the four edges. Draw one straight line on each of the four sides of your table top following the 2-inch markings. Then cut four one- to two-inch thick wood that will serve as your under-table frame. Glue the four sides of the frames under the table top according to the straight lines that you drew. Now, put screws to ensure the tight connection of the under-table frame. The next step is to cut four wood pieces that will serve as the legs of your table. To ensure that they are all of the same size, clamp the freshly-cut wood pieces together, two beside each other, and one pair on top of the other. Then, cut the excess length, following the size of shortest leg. After that, you just need to sand the legs except the top and the bottom parts, then attach them under the table, tucked inside the under-table frame. The latter will serve as the support to avoid any movement of your table’s legs. Apply the glue on the topmost and upper sides of the legs in order to ensure attachment to the under-table frames. Put some screw on the part of the frames that are attached to the leg of the table for better security. The next day, try to shake the table a little bit to ensure the proper alignment of the legs. Sand the table top and you’re off to add some style to your table. Varnish it or paint it with the color you want. Put no limits in what you can do with your table because once you follow these basic steps, you are sure to have one that’s strong enough to last a long time.
